The History of

MC Baseball....

I established MC Baseball in 2015 with the idea of creating opportunities for high level instruction for the underserved youth population in the St. Louis area while I was coaching my oldest sons 12U baseball team.  With the help of another coach, Scott Niekamp, I was connected with Grace New Covenant Church in Riverview and their baseball program.  I reached out to Coach Scott Davis from my Alma Mater Parkway Central to utilize their athletic fields for the camp.  Players from the PC baseball program also volunteered at the camp.  With the help of my connections from my College playing days I was able to put together a camp with high level instruction and used the proceeds from the camp to purchase baseball equipment for the church while having the kids from Grace New Covenant attend the camp for free.

In 2016 I was connected with the Jackie Joyner Kersee foundation through my father, Dr. David Campbell, who worked with JJK providing medical services through IFM community medicine.  The attendance of the camp grew significantly as well as my volunteer instructors that played at a College level and beyond. (please click on the camps tag to see the highlighted instructors with over 50yrs of MLB experience)

While 2017 had even bigger attendance with support from my friends and family, I didn't feel like it was doing enough.  1 camp a year wasn't helping the way I wanted it to.  So in 2018 we brought the camps to the kids at JJK.  I had great instructors going to the JJK facility multiple times a week during the spring and summer to work with the kids in small groups while still providing baseballs, cleats, and other baseball equipment.  In June of 2018 we also worked with the JJK foundation to build an enclosed building between the 2 baseball fields to have 3 indoor batting cages to allow for training in the winter and in bad weather.  MC Baseball provided a lot of volunteer hours building it as well as the batting cage nets, turf, screens, mounds and pitching machines.

We had 2 1/2 great years.....and then the World changed.  Once the pandemic hit in 2020, MC Baseballs ability to offer in person training had to stop.  Since 2020 we have helped with service projects to do field improvements including putting in bullpen mounds and home plates on both sides of the 2 baseball fields with protective fencing.  In 2022 the Lafayette high school baseball team spent a day working on the field and in September of 2025 the St. Louis University baseball team put the finishing touches on the bullpens as well as other field maintenance. (please see service projects tab for pictures of the field improvement and construction)

The vision of 2026 and beyond.....

MC Baseball is going to get back to providing small group instruction for the JJK baseball program as well as help with tournament fees to provide more opportunity for games experience to grow the size and love for baseball in the East St. Louis community.  The long term goal of MC Baseball is to be able to provide supplemental financial help to players that go through the JJK program and have the opportunity to use baseball to further their education beyond high school.
